Are there previous editions of the SPJ?

No, the first edition of the SPJ will be published in Spring 2024. As such, there are no previous editions to review.

What language can submissions be written in?

Currently, the SPJ is able to review submissions written in English and/or French.

Who is the primary audience of the SPJ?

The SPJ is primarily directed at philosophy students enrolled at an accredited post-secondary institution. This includes both undergraduate students, graduate philosophy students, and students taking a minor in philosophy.

What is the difference between the submissions criteria and the submissions guidelines?

The submissions criteria provide information regarding who can submit their work to the SPJ, whereas the submissions guidelines provide information regarding what kind of philosophical works can be submitted to the SPJ.

How will submissions be reviewed?

All submissions will be reviewed via a double-blind system to ensure fairness and consistency in the reviewal process.

Do submissions have to use a specific referencing style?

Yes, all submissions must be in accordance with the 17th Edition of the Chicago Manual of Style. Please click here in order to be redirected to the official Chicago Manual of Style website for more information regarding this referencing style.

Can students outside of Canada apply?

Yes, students learning philosophy outside of Canada are welcome to apply. Please review the SPJ Submissions Criteria and Guidelines prior to submitting your work for consideration.
